Delanie and Josh met on the first day of high school, in drama class, at fourteen years old — and eleven years later, they were exchanging vows. The proposal itself had already set a pretty high bar: cliffside at MaKena Beach in Maui, waves crashing below, searching for turtles and starfish before Josh got down on one knee with the ocean as a witness.
For the wedding, Delanie set her sights on Union Hill Inn in Sonora, California, and it’s easy to see why. The property unfolds like a maze of secret gardens, tucked-away ponds, and grand foliage, wrapped in forest that feels more like the Scottish countryside than Northern California. It’s a setting built for a fairytale, and this couple leaned all the way into that — right down to a grandfather officiating the ceremony and a surprise serenade of kazoos and ukuleles during cocktail hour.
What we love about days like this one is how much personality comes through once the formal portraits are done — the in-jokes, the family traditions, the small chaos of a wedding day that never quite goes according to plan (rings gone missing, a nervous dog refusing the aisle) but comes together beautifully anyway. Walking down the aisle was the moment Delanie says stuck with her most — and looking through this gallery, it’s easy to understand why.
