Engagement photos work best when the backdrop means something, which is part of why the Coachella Valley is such a good place to shoot them. Depending on what feels right for you, that could be the sculptural boulders and Joshua trees out toward the national park, a quiet street in Cathedral City, or open desert out in Indio or Desert Hot Springs. The variety across this valley means we’re rarely stuck choosing between “pretty” and “personal.”
Timing matters just as much as location. The hour before sunset turns the desert warm and soft — long shadows, golden light, and none of the harsh contrast that midday sun brings. It’s the window we build most engagement sessions around, because it does a lot of the work for us.
Every couple photographs differently, so we mix things up on the day: posed moments for the shots you’ll want on your save-the-dates, and plenty of unscripted, candid ones for everything in between. The goal is a set of photos that actually looks and feels like the two of you, not a generic template with your faces dropped in.
