For this shoot, we teamed up with Palm Springs Style Magazine for an editorial spread built around Colony Palms Hotel and its poolside restaurant, the Purple Room. Colony Palms has that unmistakable old-Palm-Springs feel — Spanish colonial architecture, saturated color, and a courtyard pool that photographs beautifully no matter how many times it’s been shot before.
The Purple Room carries a vintage supper-club atmosphere of its own, and that sense of old-school glamour comes through in the room’s lighting and décor. Shooting food and setting there meant leaning into that mood: warm poolside light, plated dishes styled to match the room’s rich palette, and a feel that reads equal parts classic Palm Springs and current-day magazine spread.
It’s the kind of assignment we love — pairing a publication’s editorial goals with a venue that already has personality to spare, and coming away with images that do justice to both.
