When Golf Magazine reached out to photograph professional Dutch golfer Dewi-Claire Schreefel, the resulting image ended up doing more than illustrating a story — it became the cover. That’s about as strong an endorsement of a portrait session as it gets, and it only happens when a location and a subject both bring real personality to the frame.
We built the day around Dewi’s actual Palm Springs routine rather than a generic photoshoot script: a set at the pickleball court, one of her favorite ways to unwind between tournaments, and the cover shot itself out at the Palm Springs windmills, with the San Jacinto Mountains stacking up along the horizon behind her. From there, a short drive brought us to the Palm Springs Art Museum, where a private early-morning tour let us shoot Dewi alongside a few of the gallery’s installations before the doors opened to the public.
Dewi’s range — competitive athlete, art lover, someone who clearly enjoys wherever she happens to be traveling — is what made the session work as well as it did.
