There’s a particular kind of quiet to Palm Springs at sunrise, before the desert heat sets in and while the light is still soft enough to wrap around everything it touches. That hush made the perfect setting for Lee’s maternity session — an unhurried early morning built entirely around catching the glow of a growing family at its most tender stage.
Shooting maternity portraits at sunrise instead of evening golden hour changes the whole feel of a session. The color is cooler and gentler at first light, then warms fast as the sun climbs, so we moved through poses and locations quickly to catch every shift. Silhouettes against the early sky, close-up detail shots of hands resting on a belly, and wide frames that let the desert landscape breathe around her each looked completely different depending on exactly when in that narrow window they were taken.
Maternity sessions are inherently about anticipation, and shooting one at sunrise only adds to that feeling — a quiet, in-between moment, caught right before everything changes.
