Location helps more than people expect. Tucking a session near a building, a rock formation, or a stand of palms cuts down on the worst of the gusts, and shooting in the early morning or late-afternoon hours tends to be calmer anyway, with the added bonus of that soft, golden desert light. On the posing side, angling a subject’s face slightly into the wind keeps hair from blowing across it, and leaning into the movement rather than fighting it — a hand resting near the hair, a scarf catching the breeze — usually reads as more natural than a shot where everyone looks frozen and tense.
What you wear matters too. Fitted or structured pieces hold up better than anything too loose, though a flowy dress or a light layer can actually add some movement to a photo without becoming a fight to manage. And if a strand of hair or a wrinkled sleeve sneaks into a frame anyway, that’s an easy fix later — no need to let it slow down the shoot in the moment.
