A spa day in Palm Springs is about as close as photography gets to capturing a feeling rather than a moment. The desert setting already leans toward calm — quiet light, warm tones, wide-open sky — and a great spa amplifies that with its own design language: lush gardens, soft water features, and interiors built specifically to slow people down.
We approach these sessions in layers. First, the environment itself: the gardens, the outdoor relaxation areas, the architecture that makes a space feel like an escape rather than just a business. Then the details — massage tables set with soft linens, aromatic oils, candles, the small touches that separate a great spa from an ordinary one. And finally, when clients are comfortable with it, candid moments of the experience itself: a quiet soak, a relaxed conversation, the particular stillness of someone who’s actually unwinding.
The Well Spa at Miramonte and Two Bunch Palms are two of our favorite settings for this kind of work in the Coachella Valley — one built around private garden patios and outdoor treatment rooms, the other centered on natural hot mineral springs in a genuinely otherworldly desert oasis. Both give us a mix of architectural and natural elements to shoot, and both understand exactly what makes their space special.
Client privacy always comes first in this kind of session — we get clear permission before photographing anyone during treatment, and we’re just as happy focusing on atmosphere and detail when a client would rather not be in the frame. Either way, the goal is the same: images that convey real rest, not staged relaxation.
