Town’s End Outfitters, a designer activewear and performance apparel company, flew our team out to Calgary, Canada for a clothing showcase built around one of the brand’s core passions: polo. The company’s owners, Brit and Carolyn, are as devoted to the sport as they are to golf, tennis, and shooting, and above all, to horses — and that passion shaped the entire shoot.
The lineup featured pieces from Miasuki, Hurlingham Polo, and Noel Asmar Equestrian alongside Town’s End Outfitters’ own line, photographed both in action on the polo field and in more posed setups that had to account for something most product shoots don’t: a horse that also needed to look good in frame. Weather cooperated in the end, with dark, rainy skies breaking into scattered clouds that let some genuinely beautiful natural light through — a bit of luck on a shoot that happened to fall on Canada Day, complete with cupcakes topped in little flags from a member of the polo club.
Shooting apparel next to large, moving animals on an open field adds a layer of unpredictability that a studio never will, and that unpredictability is exactly what gave this collection its energy. By the end of the day, one of the models, an accomplished polo player named Chloe, even gave our team a quick lesson in how the game is actually played.
