We’re Jasmine and Ryan, and the past two years have been the best of our lives, built around growing our business and raising our son. There’s a particular kind of joy that comes from watching a child change in the smallest ways — and it comes with a little bit of bittersweetness too, watching your baby turn into his own person with his own thoughts and opinions about the world.
So we’re beyond excited to share the next chapter: our family is growing again. We’d been hoping for a sibling for our son for a long time, and we went into this pregnancy assuming it would be a fairly straightforward second round. Then came the first ultrasound. Our doctor scanned around, measured, checked the heartbeat — and just as she was finishing up, she paused and said, “and there’s baby number two.” We had no idea that was even a possibility. Shock turned to disbelief turned to pure excitement almost instantly.
The reveal didn’t stop there: we found out shortly after that we’re having identical twin boys. What we thought would be smooth sailing turned into a completely different kind of adventure, and our son could not be more thrilled about his two new brothers on the way.
We photographed this journey in two places that meant a lot to us — first in Canada, at Lake Louise and Banff, when we still believed we were expecting one baby boy, and then again in Oak Glen, California, at 19 weeks, once we knew the full story. Since our twins share one placenta, we’re keeping a close eye on the pregnancy and would appreciate any good thoughts sent our way as we go.
